Love

Love

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind….‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’

Matthew 22 v 37-39

Love is at the heart of the Christian message. The Bible teaches that God’s motive is love.  “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.” John 3 v 16.  Love is important to each one of us, we all want to feel and know that we are loved. Love is evident in our relationships with each other and in our actions to support our community and our world. We see it in our interactions at school and home, feel it when we are together, and experience it through how others act towards us. Colossians 3 v 14 tells us to “Love each other. Love is what holds you all together in perfect unity.” It is not always an easy thing to do.  The Bible teaches us to “love our enemies.” Christians believe that it is by understanding God’s love for us that we truly love others. At All Saints we believe that the best way to teach children how to love is to show them love in action. They are encouraged to show love, not just in words but in putting others and their needs before their own. “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not become angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices over the truth.  Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always continues strong. Love never ends.” 1 Corinthians 13 v 4-8
