Nursery OWLS

In Nursery we provide a stimulating and challenging environment that encourages the children to be independent learners.  We are guided by the children's interests and they are encouraged to use their imagination and inquisitiveness to help them acquire the knowledge, skills and positive attitudes they need to be ready for school.  Mrs Akrill teaches in Nursery with Mrs Maddock as Nursery Nurse and teaching assistant - Ms Gorashi and Mrs Soanes.

The day is split into two sessions - mornings (8.30am to 11.30am) and afternoons (12.30pm to 3.30pm) with children attending either every morning or every afternoon.

topic news

Term 4

Following the children's interests our topic is Superheroes this term. We have had a letter from Batman and Supergirl asking us to learn how to be superheroes so that we can help them! First of all we will  find out about what Superheroes do and need. Next we will  choose super powers, make costumes and props and think of superhero names. We hope to encourage the children to use descriptive language and connectives to develop their own scenarios and storylines.

Term 3

This term in Nursery we are planning to celebrate  lunar (Chinese) New Year. Then we are going to do some activities around the Nursery Rhyme 'Down in the Jungle' which ties in with the animals linked to the Characteristics of Effective Learning. We may talk about and learn some other  songs and rhymes too.

Term 2
We are beginning this term with finding out about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali. This will involve reading the story of prince Rama, princess Sita and the 10 headed monster king, making diva lamps and rangoli patterns and cooking some Indian treats. We will also be talking about autumn, particularly when at Forest School and doing some autumn crafts.

Term 1

This term we have been busy settling our new children into Nursery and our routines and expectations. Our focus for this term is the Characteristics of Effective Learning. These are behaviours that enhance learning. We are using animal characters to encourage the children to be aware of how to be good learner.  This is something which we will refer to and continue through the year.
